|Wang Yi Holds Telephone Talks with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon|
In the evening of December 14, 2013, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. They exchanged views on Syria issue.
Wang Yi expressed that the second Geneva meeting on Syria issue is scheduled late January next year. It will be a "window of opportunity" for breaking the deadlock over Syria issue. China hopes that all parties concerned will seize and make good use of this opportunity to ensure that the meeting will be held as scheduled and will achieve positive outcomes so as to substantively launch the process of political settlement at an early date and to give a peaceful and tranquil homeland back to the people in Syria and other countries in the region. China appreciates UN's important role and will continue to support the mediation work by the Secretary-General and Lakhdar Brahimi, the UN-AL Joint Special Representative on Syria issue. China is ready to continue providing support and help for the destruction of Syria's chemical weapons.
Ban Ki-moon appreciated China's positive role in resolving Syria issue. He hoped that China will continue to support the relevant work of the UN.
