|Chinese Embassy Celebrated the 65th Anniversary of the Signing of the Rice and Rubber Pact between China and Sri Lanka|
On 18 December 2017, Chinese Embassy held the celebration of the 65th Anniversary of the signing of the Rice and Rubber Pact between China and Sri Lanka at the BMICH. Hon. Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Charge d’Affaires Madam Pang Chunxue, Mr. Thulitha Mendis Senior Vice-President of Sri Lanka-China Business Council of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, decedents of the signatories of the pact as well as more than 200 representatives from different sectors of Sri Lanka and Chinese companies participated in the celebration.
Hon. Speaker Karu Jayasuriya recalled the history of the signing of the Rice and Rubber Pact, and said that the pact was not only a trade agreement, but also an agreement of profound friendship between China and Sri Lanka. As time goes by, the traditional friendship becomes more intimate. The speaker spoke highly of H.E. Ambassador Yi Xianliang’s efforts and contribution to the development of the relations between our two countries, and looked forward to opening a new chapter in bilateral relations.
Charge d’Affaires Pang said, the Rice and Rubber Pact was a symbol and testimony of the traditional friendship between China and Sri Lanka. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 60 years ago, China and Sri Lanka have supported and helped each other, regardless of the changing of the international environment and Sri Lanka internal politics. Currently, the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries is gradually deepening under the framework of "Belt and Road" and achieves new progress. China is willing to make efforts to promote China-Sri Lanka strategic cooperative partnership featuring sincere, mutual help and ever-lasting friendship to a new height.
Hon. Speaker and Madam Pang awarded commemorative plaques to the decedents of two sides respectively, wishing the friendship between the two countries new vitality.
