China and Sri Lanka launched Industrial Zone Office in Hambantota

On 4 November, Hon. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Chinese Ambassador H.E. Yi Xianliang participated in the launching ceremony of the "Sri Lanka-China Logistics and Industrial Zone Office" in Hambantota.

Ambassador Yi Xianliang said that China attaches great importance on bilateral relations and practical cooperation between the two countries. We are willing to assist Sri Lanka to establish basic industrial system. The Hambantota Comprehensive Development Project is a new milestone in Sri Lanka's economic and social development. The launching of the industrial zone office marks an important step forward in the development of the project. In next five years, the Chinese companies plan to invest more than 5 billion USD in the industrial zone, which will inject new vitality into Sri Lanka's development and benefit the local people.

Hon. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that launching of the indusrial zone office is a crucial milestone in the strong ties between Sri Lanka and China. The Sri Lanka-China Logistics and Industrial Zone will transform Sri Lanka into an important trading and logistics hub and attract massive investments to the Hambantota area. Sri Lanka is willing to participate in the “Belt and Road” Initiative which will strengthen connectivity in the whole Asia.
