Chinese Ambassador Yi Xianliang Presented Credentials to President Maithripala Sirisena

On 26 February 2015, Chinese Ambassador Yi Xianliang presented the letter of credence to Sri Lankan President Maitripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat. The two sides had friendly talks on further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Yi firstly conveyed Chinese President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to President Maitripala Sirisena. President Sirisena expressed his gratitude and requested Ambassador Yi to convey his cordial greetings to President Xi Jinping.

Ambassador Yi stressed that China and Sri Lanka are traditionally good neighbors. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the bilateral relationship has grown steadily and sets a model in friendly coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation between neighbors. Yi said,President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Sri Lanka last September was a great success with many fundamental outcomes, which made the bilateral relationship stand at a new historic starting point. As the new Chinese Ambassador, he is deeply aware of the great responsibilities and glorious mission on his shoulders, and will work hard with Sri Lankan Government and the people to implement the consensus reached by the two sides during President Xi Jinping’s visit, so as to consolidate the traditional friendship and push forward the strategic cooperative partnership between the two sides.

President Sirisena welcomed Ambassador Yi's assumption of office. He highly appraised the support and assistance of China to Sri Lanka’s development. He said Sri Lanka-China friendship dates back to more than one thousand years ago, and Sri Lanka is willing to work with China to further promote the traditional friendship and pragmatic cooperation to the new level. He promised that Sri Lankan Government will render support and assistance to Ambassador Yi's mission.

Ambassador Yi Xianliang arrived in Colombo on 24 February and presented the copy of the of the letter of credence to the Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka on 25 Februry.
