Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka Meets with the Special Envoy of the Chinese Government Liu Jianchao

On February 6, 2015, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka met with the Special Envoy of the Chinese Government and Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jianchao in Colombo.

Liu Jianchao said that China always regards Sri Lanka as an important cooperative partner in South Asia, and is firmly committed to developing the China-Sri Lanka strategic cooperative partnership. China is willing to work closely with the new government of Sri Lanka to fully implement the results of President Xi's visit to Sri Lanka, so as to achieve the convergence of development strategies of the two countries and promote a more vigorous development of bilateral relations.

Liu Jianchao said that in the past few years, China has actively supported and participated in the economic and social development of Sri Lanka, pushed forward China-Sri Lanka practical cooperation in various fields, implemented a series of major cooperative projects concerning the national economy and the people's livelihood of Sri Lanka, and brought about tangible benefits to the two peoples. We believe that the new government of Sri Lanka will focus on the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples, ensure the sustainable and steady development of major cooperative projects between the two countries, and benefit more people in Sri Lanka.

Wickremesinghe said that Sri Lanka and China share a long history of friendly exchanges. Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, Sri Lanka and China have established close friendly and cooperative relations under the joint efforts of the two successive governments. The new government of Sri Lanka values the traditional friendship and the special friendly relations between the two countries, and appreciates China's long-term support to Sri Lanka's economic and social development. The new government of Sri Lanka is promoting political reform and the adjustment of economic policy, and is willing to work with China to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields and ensure the bilateral friendly relations to develop continuously.
