2014/04/15

On the occasion of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year of Sri Lanka, I wish to extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to the people of Sri Lanka on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka and in my own name.

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year is a moment to celebrate good harvest. In the past year, under the leadership of H.E. President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Sri Lanka maintained political stability, rapid economic growth and prosperous development in all social undertakings. As a good neighbour of Sri Lanka, China would like to extend its sincere congratulations to these achievements.

The past year was also a year of great development and good harvest for the China-Sri Lanka relationship. At the invitation of H.E. President Xi Jinping, H.E. President Mahinda Rajapaksa paid a successful state visit to China, during which the two heads of state jointly decided to promote our bilateral relationship to the Strategic Cooperation Partnership, which pointed a direction for the development of our bilateral ties. The two sides firmly support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concern, our economic cooperation achieved fruitful results, and our cultural exchanges are more and more active.

At present, the China-Sri Lanka relationship is at the best period in history and is facing new development opportunities. China is willing to march forward together with Sri Lanka, implement well the important consensus reached by the leaders of our two countries, deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields, so as to better benefit the peoples of our two countries.

May Sri Lanka enjoy prosperity for ever!

May the friendship between China and Sri Lanka be everlasting!

May Sri Lankan people enjoy happy New Year, prosperity, happiness and good health!
